Discovered in the late 1980s in the Brazilian state of Paraiba, the inspiration for its name, this crown jewel of the tourmaline family occurs in an incendiary spectrum ranging from electric blue to neon green. The only other hues in nature that even come close to its intense incandescence are tropical seas or peacock quills.
